Les Misérables at Hudson Valley Shakespeare in Garrison, NY

The final show of our 2026 season at Hudson Valley Shakespeare was a production of Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables, directed by Jenn Thompson. It was an ensemble-based production to its core; the actors were the engine behind the show, armed with a gigantic French flag, a constant barrage of finely-tuned set change choreography, and a LOT of costume changes - all set against the trademark HVS sunset vista of the Hudson River. and scored by a lush 14-piece orchestra. I was in true Swiss Army knife form, playing a slew of characters including the Foreman of the factory who fires Fantine, Thenardier’s gang member Montparnasse, and the offstage voice of a foreboding Army Officer.

Les Mis is a PRETTY popular title any time it’s produced, and our production was no exception. We were extraordinarily well-attended throughout our run by folks from all over New York and beyond…including President and Secretary Clinton at our final preview.

The final performance of Les Misérables was this past Sunday, September 27…which also puts a wrap on the 2026 season at Hudson Valley Shakespeare!!! It was a thrilling 6 months (!) of daring and memorable work with a warm, generous, and insanely talented company in the most beautiful locale you could ask for, all while christening a stunning brand new permanent theatre space and home for HVS. But all things come to an end, and now I am back in Illinois for a veeeeeeery exciting season - more to come soon…
