King Lear at Hudson Valley Shakespeare in Garrison, NY
We are off and running with King Lear at Hudson Valley Shakespeare! On June 22, we opened up our production, directed by the artistic director of HVS, Davis McCallum. I play the Duke of Albany, the husband of Lear’s eldest daughter, Goneril.
Besides my love and affection for being a part of this company and the joy I get out of working on Shakespeare’s plays, I had two big motivating factors for returning to Hudson Valley Shakespeare this season: one was to be in the inaugural company of actors to tread the boards at the brand new Scripps Theatre Center. The other was to bear witness to Kurt Rhoads’ portrayal of Lear. He is one of my favorite actors in the world, and his Lear is funny, warm, terrifying, ferocious, and heartbreaking. I am so honored to be a small part of the production.
We run King Lear until September 18. There was recently some great press about the production from The New York Times, and tickets are going fast - so be sure to plan your visit to come up and see us in Garrison!!
